Microblading and Combo Brows are becoming increasingly popular as a way to achieve perfect, hassle-free brows. However, there are still many myths surrounding these semi-permanent makeup techniques. Let’s debunk some of the most common misconceptions so you can make an informed decision about whether it’s right for you.

Myth #1: Once I Get Microblading, I’ll Never Have to Pencil My Brows Again

Reality: While microblading and combo brows do provide a long-lasting enhancement to your natural brows, they are not permanent. Over time, the pigment will fade due to factors like skin type, sun exposure, and lifestyle.
Here’s the important part: Microblading is designed to enhance and balance your natural brow shape. It’s not a substitute for full brow makeup—though it can drastically reduce the time you spend doing your brows daily. After your treatment, you'll still need to maintain the shape with touch-ups.

  • Smudge-Free & Effortless: One of the major benefits of microblading and combo brows is that you don’t have to worry about balancing or measuring your brow shape every morning. The shape is already done for you.

  • Waterproof and Sweat-Proof: You can totally enjoy your life without worrying about embarrassing moments in the rain or while sweating at the gym. With microblading or combo brows, you don’t have to worry about your brows smudging or disappearing after swimming or getting caught in a downpour.

  • Daily Touch-Ups Not Required: You won’t need to spend time penciling in your brows every day to get the perfect shape. It’s designed to give you a defined, natural look that stays in place, no matter what you’re doing.

However, it’s important to note that even with microblading or combo brows, you may still need to pencil in or define your brows if you want a stronger makeup look or to match your daily routine. It’s a great way to save time and hassle, but it won’t eliminate the need for brow maintenance entirely.

Myth #2: Once My Brows Are Done, I Don’t Need to Maintain Their Shape Anymore

Reality: Microblading and combo brows can certainly enhance the overall shape of your brows, but they don’t eliminate the need for maintenance. You’ll still need to maintain the shape of your natural brows through regular brow tidying (tweezing, waxing, or threading).
  • Regular tidying will keep the area around your brows looking clean and neat.
  • You might find that with your new brows, you won’t need as much maintenance as before, but a little tidying is still necessary to keep them looking fresh.

Myth #3: Microblading is Painful

Reality: Many clients worry about pain during the procedure, but microblading is generally not painful. I make sure to apply numbing cream to the area before the treatment to ensure comfort. While you might feel some mild discomfort, it should not be intense or unbearable.
  • Pain Tolerance Varies: Everyone’s pain tolerance is different. Some clients are so relaxed they can even fall asleep during the procedure, while others may still feel a bit of discomfort. If a client feels uncomfortable at any point, I’m happy to apply more numbing cream to make sure they’re at ease.
  • Aftercare: After the treatment, some clients may experience mild swelling or sensitivity, but this is temporary and usually resolves within a few hours to a day.
Microblading is a manageable procedure, and most clients find it quite comfortable overall.

Myth #4: The Results Are Immediately Perfect

Reality: While the results will look great immediately after the procedure, it’s important to remember that your brows will go through a healing process. The color will initially appear darker and more defined than it will once healed. This is normal as the pigment settles into your skin.
  • Healing Time: Over the next few days, the brows will gradually lighten as your skin heals, and the final results will emerge within 2-3 weeks. The color may appear darker at first, but it will soften and become more natural as your skin heals.
  • Touch-Up: After the initial healing, a touch-up is necessary to perfect the shape and color, ensuring a longer-lasting result.
While the brows might look too dark or perfect immediately after the procedure, this is just part of the natural healing process. Rest assured, you’ll have beautifully shaped, soft, and natural-looking brows once healing is complete!

Myth #5: Microblading Is Only for Younger Clients

Reality: Microblading and combo brows are suitable for a wide range of ages. Whether you’re in your 20s or 70s, these semi-permanent makeup techniques can help you achieve beautiful, natural-looking brows that complement your face.
  • Older clients often turn to microblading to restore lost brow hair due to aging or medical conditions like alopecia, chemotherapy, or menopause.
  • With the right technique, microblading can enhance your brows, regardless of your age.

Myth #6: Microblading Can Be Done on Any Skin Type

Reality: Microblading is not ideal for every skin type. If you have oily skin, the pigment might not retain as well, and you may experience faster fading.
  • Combo brows (microblading with shading) are a better option for those with oily skin since the shading provides more durability and helps maintain definition longer.
  • Dry or normal skin tends to hold pigment better and allows microblading to last longer.

Myth #7 : Can Brow Lamination Replace Semi-Permanent Makeup for Thin Brows?

Reality: While brow lamination is a popular trend that involves perming the brow hairs to create a fluffy, full look, it’s important to understand that lamination is quite different from semi-permanent makeup.

  • Lamination Adds Fullness: Brow lamination can help make your brows look fuller by lifting and setting the hairs in an upward position. This can give a fuller appearance if you have sparse brows, but it’s more about enhancing the texture and shape of your existing brow hairs, rather than filling in gaps with color.
  • Maintenance Is Key: One downside to brow lamination is that it requires a lot of daily maintenance. You’ll need to pencil your brows, use brow gel to hold the shape, and touch them up every day to keep the fluffy look intact. Additionally, lamination only lasts 6-8 weeks, and you’ll need to get it done again to maintain the look.
  • Long-Lasting Solution: If you’re looking for a low-maintenance and long-lasting option, microblading or combo brows is likely a better choice. These semi-permanent techniques provide long-lasting results (6-12 months) with much less maintenance, and they are ideal for clients who want to achieve a fuller, defined brow look without having to spend time filling in or styling every day.

While lamination is great for a fluffy look, if you're after something more long-lasting and natural-looking, microblading or combo brows will offer you a more convenient, low-maintenance solution.
