Case Study: Microblading Before Chemotherapy — Restoring Confidence Through the Storm

Facing chemotherapy is one of the most challenging journeys anyone can go through — physically, emotionally, and mentally. When one of my client’s daughters contacted me, her mother had just been told she would likely lose all her facial hair, including her eyebrows. They were looking for a long-term solution to help her feel more like herself, especially during such a vulnerable time.

Her doctor had recommended that she get microblading done before starting chemotherapy. It was a wise suggestion — during chemo, the immune system becomes too weak to safely undergo any cosmetic tattooing, meaning the procedure must be delayed until full recovery. But when you're at your lowest, you don’t want to be worrying about pencilling in your brows or feeling self-conscious about how you look.

Time was tight, but after a consultation, I adjusted my schedule so we could complete both the initial treatment and the touch-up before her chemotherapy began. We carefully chose a shape and colour that suited her features and complexion — soft and natural, to give her comfort and confidence.

After starting treatment, she did begin to lose hair — not all of it, thankfully, but enough that her brows would have appeared sparse. Because she had done the microblading before chemo, she didn’t have to face that loss on top of everything else. Her brows stayed looking full and natural, helping her feel more like herself throughout the process.

I understand that fighting through treatment is incredibly difficult, and while microblading may seem like a small thing, it can bring back a sense of identity, control, and confidence. My goal is always to help my clients feel positive and empowered — even during the most difficult chapters of their lives.

Her daughter kindly left this beautiful testimonial on Google:

“Before starting chemo, my mum was told that she would likely lose all facial hair and upon that, I began to look for a long-term solution for her eyebrows. I found Ruby’s Instagram and messaged her explaining the situation. When we went for the consultation, Ruby was so reassuring and welcoming and went above and beyond to schedule my mum's appointments before her treatment began. Her expertise meant that she was able to help my mum choose a shape and shade that perfectly matched her features and complexion. She led my mum through the healing process and was very reassuring. Having her eyebrows microbladed has given my mum extra confidence whilst losing her hair and wearing a baseball cap. A massive thank you to Ruby — my mum would highly recommend her to anyone who is going through a similar or alternative situation!!”
